Schreffler's Early Goal Stands as Susquehanna Shuts Out Keystone

LA PLUME, PA - The Susquehanna University Field Hockey team came away with their 12th win of the season on Wednesday night, defeating Keystone College 1-0. The win gives the team their most wins in a season since their 2016 campaign, in which the team finished 15-4 and lost in the conference championship to Elizabethtown.

Similar to how they have played all season, the River Hawks possessed the ball throughout the game, controlling the pace and flow of the game. They attempted a season-high 28 shots on the day, holding Keystone to just two shots in 60 minutes.

The River Hawks scored their only goal of the day in 12th minute, approaching the end of the first quarter. After earning a corner, Susquehanna inserted and Katie Bucher ripped a pass inside the box. The pass was deflected by Cassie West, who found her teammate Ashley Schreffler in the left corner of the box, wide open, after returning from inserting the corner. The sophomore finished the play, as she slapped the shot home, giving Schreffler her fourth goal of the season, and her second game winner of the year.

The game continued in favor of the River Hawks, as Keystone only had two attempts to tie the game after. Both shots were saved by Mackenzie Bross, who earned her 12th win of the season in goal and her sixth shutout.

On the night, Bucher, Sam Banks, and Katie Koch each attempted five shots, with Kelsey Murray attempting four. Out of the 28 shots that the team took, 20 were on goal, with 19 of those being saved by Keystone defenders. Susquehanna earned 14 corners throughout the game while the Giants only earned three, all in the second quarter.
