GETTYSBURG, PA (October 5, 2021) -- The Susquehanna University men's soccer team led 2-1 after 45 minutes of action, but the host Bullets of Gettysburg College tallied four times in the second half to take a 5-2 non-conference victory in action from Clark Field Tuesday evening.
The River Hawks (4-6-1) jumped out on top early in the game, as
Brian McKee was fed through in on goal from
Michael Morelli during a counter attack off a Gettysburg corner kick. McKee didn't need a touch, as he fired first-time into the bottom right of the goal for the 1-0 SU lead and his fourth of the season.
Susquehanna would double its lead with under 14 minutes to play, as
Clay Yannazone headed in a beautiful service off a free kick from McKee on the back post to make it 2-0. It was Yannazone's first goal of his Susquehanna career. On the next kick-off, Gettysburg wasted no time getting back into the game, as Aidan Gaynor headed in a cross from Gaoussou Coulibaly 22 seconds after the SU goal to make it 2-1 at the half.
After halftime, the Bullets (6-3-1) seized the momentum with three goals in seven minutes to take a 4-2 lead in the 69th minute. GC added another in the 86th minute from Pape Diallo to but the game out of reach for the River Hawks.
Susquehanna was outshot for the game 26-7, while Gettysburg posted 11 of the game's 15 corner kicks. Jack Carroll scored twice for the Bullets, while Gaynor added a goal and an assist and Nikko DiSimplico also scored for Gettysburg.
Gerrit Stech played 81 minutes in net for SU, making seven saves.
