SELINSGROVE, PA -The Susquehanna (9-2) defense continued their excellent play as of late, shutting down the Alvernia Golden Wolves (6-5) offense, as the River Hawks claimed their ninth win of the season. The lone goal of the game was scored by
Sam Banks in the second period, as she tallied her first goal of her senior season.
The Susquehanna defense has been electric as of late, as they did not allow the Golden Wolves to attempt a shot in the entirety of the game. In the last three games, over 180 minutes of action, the team has allowed just two shot attempts and one goal. In their last four games, the team has allowed just two goals to be scored.
Throughout the game, the River Hawks held possession of the ball on their half of the field, evading the Golden Wolves' defense to fire off shot attempts with regularity.
The only goal of the game came in the second period after a shot by
Katie Koch was saved by the Alvernia goalie. The saved shot deflected directly to the stick of Banks who slapped the shot home, giving Susquehanna a lead they would not relinquish.
Mackenzie Bross earned the win and shutout as she benefited greatly from the strong defensive play of the River Hawk back line. Bross now has five shutouts on the year and has all nine wins for Susquehanna.
Other Notes
- The River Hawks dominated the shot battle, outshooting the Golden Wolves 27-0 on the night. Susquehanna held a large advantage on penalty corners as well, earning 14 to Alvernia's one.
- The team had nine different players attempt at least two shots in their spread out offensive attack. Banks, Koch, and Cassie West each had two shots on goal in the win for SU.
