SELINSGROVE, PA - The Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team defeated the Moravian University Greyhounds by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Emily Wertz scored the only goal of the game, giving the River Hawks the conference win.
The match versus Moravian saw the River Hawks and Greyhounds struggle to find offensive rhythm throughout the game. Each team struggled to get the ball deep into opponent territory and deliver shots on goal.
Wertz scored the lone goal of the game late in the second half as
Olivia Ricci fed the ball to Wertz on the right side of the field. With just her defender on her left hip, the junior dribbled the ball up to the right corner of the box and fired off a shot that was perfectly placed in the left corner of the goal, well out of the goal keeper's reach. The goal was all the River Hawk defense would need, as they were able to stymie any Moravian offensive attack.
Each half saw shots come at a premium for both squads. Susquehanna attempted four in the first half and two in the second, while Moravian tallied zero shots in the first and four in the second half. The Greyhounds were awarded two-thirds of the game's corners in the first half when they were given six chances from the corner. They earned one more in the second half, while Susquehanna was only awarded one corner in each half.
Chloe Wieczkowski collected two saves in net as she improved her record to 6-3 on the season. She has won her last three starts in goal, recording nine saves over those matches
Other Notes
- Samantha Chillis lead the team with three shot attempts, including one shot on goal. No other River Hawk attempted multiple shots.
