CARLISLE, PA (November 17, 2021) -- Senior
Olivia Brandt posted team-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Susquehanna University women's basketball team past Dickinson College 62-58 in a gritty, defensive battle from Kline Center Wednesday evening.
The River Hawks (4-1) got the fourth double-double of the season from Brandt, who has now tallied in double-figures for all five contests this year for Susquehanna. Brandt wen 7-for-17 from the floor, connecting on 4-of-8 from downtown while all 10 rebounds were on the defensive end.
Susquehanna came out on fire, scoring the game's first 13 points over the first 2:50 of the contest capped by a lay-up from senior
Kaitlyn Lynch. The lead would get up to a game-high 15 points at 2:17 of the first quarter after a lay-up from Brandt, but Dickinson trimmed its deficit to nine at 19-10 just before the end of the stanza.
SU's offense went cold in the second quarter, allowing the Red Devils to get back into the contest as Dickinson tied the game at 23 with 1:26 to go in the first half. That's how the contest would go into halftime, as Susquehanna was held to just four points in the second period.
After halftime, the game would never get over a one-possession game on either side until Dickinson took its largest lead of the contest at five with 53 seconds left. Senior
Amanda Lemire answered right back to make it a 42-39 game at the end of the third in favor of the hosts.
In the fourth, DC led 47-43 after a three-pointer from Jennifer Kremp, but Brandt drilled a three-pointer on SU's next possession to keep it to within one possession. After a stop by Susquehanna, Lemire drilled a jumper to put the River Hawks back on top by one. Susquehanna would lead until 3:30 left when Kate Montgomery hit a lay-up to make it 54-53, but graduate student
Erin McQuillen drilled a three from the right wing to push SU back on top at 56-54 with 85 seconds left.
Dickinson hit 1-of-2 from the line on its next possession, but Brandt drilled another huge shot, this time connecting on a triple to make it a four-point lead at 59-55. Kremp scored to make it a one-score game, but DC missed one of its two free throws with 15 seconds to tie the game. Lemire would put SU up three with two freebies, and
Megan Emlet made it a two-score game with five seconds left to ice the win for Susquehanna.
Lemire returned to the lineup after missing three games to post 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, adding five rebounds and five assists. McQuillen finished with 13 points, and Lynch added eight points. Senior
Amalia Esposito totaled eight boards and three assists for SU, as the River Hawks shot 38.6 percent (22-57) from the floor. Susquehanna turned the ball over just 11 times on the night.
Dickinson got a game-high 21 points from Montgomery, and Kremp finished with 12 points in the loss. The Red Devils hit on just 35.1 percent of their field goals (35.1 percent), while connecting on three of their 17 attempts from behind the arc (17.6%).
