SELINSGROVE, PA (December 8, 2021) -- The Susquehanna University women's basketball team trailed by five going into the fourth quarter with visiting Lancaster Bible College, but outscored the Chargers by 14 in the fourth quarter in rallying for a 64-55 win in non-conference play from O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
The River Hawks (6-2) were led offensively all night by senior forward
Olivia Brandt, who finished with career-highs of 22 points on 10 made field goals, 15 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. Susquehanna scored seven of the game's first nine points and led by as much as 11 going into the second quarter following a Brandt lay-up just before the first quarter break.
LBC (4-5) came out of the gates in the second quarter on fire, going on a 17-2 run to take a four-point lead with 3:14 left in the first half. Just before the half,
Erin McQuillen finished in transition to tie the game at 25 but Lizzy Tilton of LBC sent her team into halftime with a 27-25 lead with a jumper with 35 seconds left in the second quarter.
In the third, Susquehanna saw
Amanda Lemire made her first two three-point attempts of the stanza to take a four-point lead but Lancaster Bible answered with and 8-0 run to reclaim a 37-33 edge with 6:33 to play. LBC grew its advantage up to nine with 1:13 to go in the third but two free throws by
Amalia Esposito and a
Sadie Comfort bucket made it 50-45 going into the fourth.
The River Hawks shot for a 41.9%from the field and 42.86% from three point territory led by Brandt and Comfort with six points each in the fourth quarter. Susquehanna tied the game at 8:34 with a three pointer by Comfort, and took control of the game with a three pointer by McQuillen at the 6:26 mark to take a 55-54 lead. The defensive unit took over for SU, as the River Hawks allowed just five points over the final 10 minutes while outscoring LBC 19-5 to take home the nine-point win.
McQuillen finished with 11 points, and now has 963 points for her career heading into Saturday's home game with Marywood University, while also collecting seven rebounds.. Comfort tallied eight points off the bench, and Kaitlin Lynch tallied nine points. Esposito finished with eight points, 13 rebounds, and five assists for SU, while Lemire tallied six points.
Alaysha Iwais and Tilton led the Chargers with 12 points on the night, Jenna Dombach also registered nine points in the loss.

- The River Hawks will take on Marywood University in O.W. Houts Gymnasium Saturday at 1 p.m. in non-conference play. Fans are asked to bring a new, unopened gift to donate to the local Toys for Tots Drive. Those that bring a toy will be admitted for free to the contest.
