Craig Roumes (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) connected for a career-best four hits Thursday afternoon as the Susquehanna University baseball team (0-3) gave up a 3-2 fifth-inning advantage in dropping a 12-5 non-conference decision to the host Keystone College Giants (3-1).
How It Happened
Susquehanna scored first as the River Hawks put up a run in the top of the second inning. Fifth-year senior infielder
Alec Ranck (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) connected on a one-out single through the left side before stealing second.
Ranck then advanced to third on a balk and came home on senior infielder
Chris Corrado's (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) ground out to second base.
SU doubled its lead in the third as
Roumes scored on a wild pitch after hitting a one-out double to centerfield and stealing third.
Keystone broke through in the bottom of the fourth with two runs. Senior infielder
Nick Carlini drew a walk with two outs following a double play by the River Hawks then stole second and third before crossing home plate on a balk. Senior outfielder
Larry Sims also drew a two-out walk, went to second on the balk, stole third, and came home on a wild pitch to even the game at 2-2.
Roumes helped SU reclaim a 3-2 lead in the fifth when he scored on a throwing error by the Giant first baseman.
Roumes had singled through the left side in his at-bat, stole second, and then advanced to third as the River Hawks loaded the bases after senior catcher
Peter Yarem (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) drew a walk and sophomore designated hitter
JP Yore (Olney, Md./Sherwood) was hit by a pitch.
The Giants tallied four runs in the fifth inning to take their first lead of the game, a 6-3 advantage. Keystone earned four runs on two hits and two River Hawk errors. Susquehanna got one back in the sixth as
Corrado scored on
Roumes' two-out RBI single through the left side. The hosts then doubled up Susquehanna, 8-4, in the sixth with a pair of unearned runs.
SU cut the lead to 8-5 in the seventh when junior infielder
Adam Schreck (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) led off the inning with a double up the middle, went to third on a ground out to shortstop, and then scored on junior outfielder
Evan Knapp's (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) RBI single to leftfield.
The final four runs for Keystone came in the eighth on two hits as senior pinch-runner
Jared Davis scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by senior outfielder
Adam Kelly. Two runs crossed home plate on
Carlini's two-run single to leftfield before
Kelly came home on a wild pitch.

Susquehanna finished the game with a season-best 11 hits, including two extra-base hits, while holding the Giants to seven hits (one extra-base hit). However, the River Hawks committed three errors and left 13 on base. Keystone also made three errors with only six left on base. Both sides ran the bases well with each team stealing seven.

Roumes matched his career-high of four hits as he went 4-for-5 with a double. He also stole three bases, scored two runs, and drove in one run.
Corrado also collected multiple hits with a 2-for-5 effort at the plate, adding one run scored and one RBI. First-year reliever
Adam Stuck (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) took the loss on the mound as
Stuck (0-1) gave up four runs (two earned) on two hits, two walks, and one hit batter in 0.2 innings.
Carlini was the top hitter for the Giants with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate with two RBI and one run scored. He also stole three bases. Senior reliever
Matt Tarabola (1-0) claimed the win after 0.2 innings, holding SU hitless and scoreless while striking out one.
