SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team suffered a tough Landmark Conference opening loss Wednesday afternoon as the River Hawks (0-3, 0-1 LC) dropped a 25-6 decision to the University of Scranton (1-0, 1-0 LC)

How It Happened
Scranton began the game with three straight goals to post a 3-0 lead at 10:07 as junior attacker
Mike Bouhall had a goal and an assist in the run. Sophomore midfielder
Jake Turner (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) put the River Hawks on the scoreboard with unassisted goal at the 5:38 mark.
The visiting Royals then scored seven unanswered goals as Scranton notched the last four of the first 15 minutes and the first three of the second quarter for a 10-1 advantage at 11:31. First-year midfielder
Jason Carey (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) broke up the Royal run with his second goal of the season off an assist by first-year midfielder
Dominic Contella (Nutley, N.J./Nutley).
Scranton owned a 15-2 halftime lead after scoring the final five goals of the first half.
The two sides traded the first two goals of the third stanza before the Royals tallied a pair of consecutive goals to boast a 15-goal lead at 5:50 of the third. Junior defenseman
Gavin Rossman (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown West) scored his first collegiate goal – a man-down goal no less – with 3:48 remaining in the third period. Scranton tacked on two more for a 20-4 advantage after three quarters of play.
After the Royals posted the first two goals of the fourth, the Susquehanna defense found the back of the net once again as sophomore defenseman
Ted Zaborowski (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) and
Rossman netted back-to-back goals in a 47-second span for the River Hawks' final goals of the game.
Top Performers
Rossman was Susquehanna's top scorer with two goals while
Zaborowski paced the defense by matching his career-high of two caused turnovers to go along with his goal. Sophomore
Ryan Prum (Secane, Pa./Ridley) was the only River Hawk to win at face-off X as
Prum went 7-of-26 with a team- and season-best five ground balls.
The Susquehanna man-down unit did shut down the Royals on extra-man opportunities, holding the visitors to 0-for-4. Senior captain
Tyler Gross (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) made 11 saves and picked up three ground balls in 54:57 minutes while junior
Daniel Clendenny (Randolph, N.J./Morris Catholic) came up with one stop in 5:03.
Bouhall was Scranton's points leader with six on three goals and three assists while junior midfielder
Steve Apicella tallied a team-best four goals. Senior midfielder
Collin Purdy was dominant at face-off X, winning 28-of-34 with a game-high 16 ground balls.
