Susquehanna Women’s Lacrosse Stumbles at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – First-year midfielder Kelsey Homberg (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) paced the Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team in several categories Wednesday afternoon but the River Hawks came up short in Landmark Conference action. Susquehanna (1-1, 1-1 LC) dropped an 18-6 road decision to the host University of Scranton Royals (3-0, 3-0 LC).
 
How It Happened
Scranton raced out to an 11-0 advantage with 6:31 remaining in the first half. Junior midfielder Halle Conklin led the Royals in the 11-0 run with four goals
 
The River Hawks scored consecutive goals as junior captain Katie Hoerman (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown) notched the last score of the half for an 11-1 halftime score and then senior captain Nicole Hauck (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) netted the first tally of the second stanza at 29:32 to cut the deficit to 11-2.
 
Scranton used a 6-1 run to establish its biggest advantage of the game, a 14-goal lead with 15:36 to go in the game. The River Hawks then scored three straight, including a man-down goal by Hauck, to close the gap to 17-6 with 5:24 left on the clock.
 
Top Performers
Hauck and Homberg both finished with two goals to lead the River Hawks offensively. Homberg also claimed nine draw controls while four different SU players scooped up two ground balls each.
 
Senior defender Sarah Bobrowski (Bloomsbury, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) caused two turnover while first-year goalie Bea Daudelin (Baltimore, Md./Western School) allowed eight goals and made three saves in 27:45. Sophomore Emmaleen Regan (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Township) entered in relief and picked up seven stops while allowing 10 goals in 32:15.
 
First-year attacker Erin Reich scored a game-best five goals while Conklin finished with four goals and an assist. Senior Lauren Devlin and sophomore Anna Tamke split time in goal equally with Devlin making eight saves in the first 30 minutes.
