SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A four-goal second quarter proved to be the difference Saturday afternoon as the Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team notched their second consecutive win. Susquehanna (2-4, 2-2 LC) handed the Drew University Rangers (0-3, 0-3 LC) a loss for the second time this week, setting the Rangers back 8-6.
How It Happened
Drew scored the first goal of the game before first-year midfielder
Dominic Contella (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) tied up the contest 102 seconds later off an assist from sophomore midfielder
Jake Turner (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional). First-year attackman
Kobi Buffa (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) gave the River Hawks a 2-1 lead with 3:51 left in the first quarter. However, the Rangers sent the game into the second period tied at 2-2 with a man-up goal by first-year midfielder
Kellum Foster-Palmer.
After the two teams traded the first two goals of the second stanza, the River Hawks fired off three unanswered goals with junior attackman
Logan Frank (Sykesville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) tallying a goal and an assist in the 3-0 run. SU headed into halftime with a 6-3 advantage.
Only one goal was scored in the third quarter as sophomore attackman
Craig Wilkie found the back of the net with 9:41 left in the period.
With the first goal of the fourth stanza, Drew pulled within one with 12:57 remaining in the game. Susquehanna regained a two-goal lead behind a goal from sophomore midfielder
Charles Braught IV (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) with 7:38 left in regulation. The Rangers once again closed the gap to one as first-year midfielder
Brett Spafford notched an unassisted score with 2:36 on the clock. Senior captain
Colton Dick (Owings, Md./Northern) sealed the win for the River Hawks with his fifth goal of the season with just 35 seconds to go in the game.
Top Performers
Braught was SU's leading goal-scorer with two while
Dick was the team's leading point-getter with four points on a goal and three assists. Senior defenseman
Michael Jentsch, Jr. (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) had a solid game for Susquehanna with a season-best five ground balls and career-high three caused turnovers.
Sophomore
Ryan Prum (Secane, Pa./Ridley) won 7-of-11 face-offs while first-year
Jared Tavernite (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) lost only one in six attempts.
Junior
Daniel Clendenny (Randolph, N.J./Morris Catholic) and senior captain
Tyler Gross (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) split equal time in goal with
Clendenny making his third straight start.
Clendenny made two saves in the first half while
Gross came up with five stops in the final 30 minutes.

Michael Phillips who all finished with a goal and an assist. First-year defenseman
David Burke paced the defensive effort with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior goalie
Michael McGeeney posted 16 saves in Drew's third consecutive loss.
