SCRANTON, Pa. – Although the Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team did not avenge their early season 19-goal loss to the University of Scranton, Susquehanna had a better showing Saturday afternoon at Scranton. The River Hawks (2-6, 2-4 LC) held an early lead before succumbing to an 11-6 Landmark Conference loss. This was the second defeat at the hands of the Royals this season as Scranton beat SU, 25-6, in Selinsgrove on March 31.
How It Happened
Sophomore midfielder
Charles Braught IV (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) gave Susquehanna an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal with 11:06 to go in the first period. The Royals tied it up a little over six minutes later and the game went into the second quarter knotted at 1-1.
Scranton broke the draw with junior attacker
Mike Bouhall's second straight goal less than five minutes into the start of the second stanza. The River Hawks evened up the score 90 seconds later off the stick of first-year midfielder
Dominic Contella (Nutley, N.J./Nutley). The hosts sandwiched a pair of goals around another unassisted
Braught goal to head into halftime with a 5-3 advantage.
The Royals used a 4-0 third quarter to distance themselves from Susquehanna. Four different players scored for Scranton in the third while the River Hawks were limited to six shots, including just two on target.
SU outscored the Royals, 3-2, in the fourth but it wasn't enough to dig out of the six-goal hole the River Hawks found themselves after three quarters of play.
