Susquehanna Men’s Lacrosse Grounded by Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team were held scoreless for the first 45 minutes of the game Wednesday afternoon in Landmark Conference action. Susquehanna (2-7, 2-5 LC) suffered a 13-1 road loss at Elizabethtown College (4-1, 4-1 LC) in its third consecutive loss.
 
How It Happened
The first goal of the game wasn't scored until there was 4:26 left in the first period. Junior midfielder Nick Cost tallied his first of two to give Etown the early 1-0 lead.
 
The host Blue Jays tacked on three more in the second quarter, including two in one minute, to push their advantage to 4-0 at halftime.
 
Elizabethtown exploded for six goals in the third, including three goals in a two-minute span, as senior attackman Thomas Palen led the way with two goals while junior midfielder Micah Ballew assisted on three scores. The Blue Jays carried a 10-0 advantage into the final stanza of the game.
 
Senior captain Colton Dick (Owings, Md./Northern) finally put Susquehanna on the board 25 seconds into the fourth with a man-up goal off an assist by first-year attackman Kobi Buffa (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston). Etown closed out the game on a 3-0 run.
 
Top Performers
Sophomore Ryan Prum (Secane, Pa./Ridley) won 6-of-14 face-offs with two ground balls while sophomore defenseman Ted Zaborowski (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) paced the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
 
Senior captain Tyler Gross (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) made a dozen stops with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
 
Cost led the Blue Jays in the win with two goals and an assist while Ballew finished with three assists. Tom Mahoney turned away 13 shots in 53:10 minutes while junior Danny Gilbert went 10-of-14 with six ground balls.
