No. 6 Catholic Soars Past Susquehanna Women’s Lacrosse

River Hawks Clinch No. 5 Seed in Landmark Championship

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team dropped their second meeting with nationally-ranked The Catholic University of America Wednesday evening. Susquehanna (3-4, 3-4 LC) suffered a 15-4 setback at the hands of the sixth-ranked Cardinals (7-0, 7-0 LC) in Landmark Conference action. In their first meeting, the River Hawks fell 21-10 at Catholic on April 14.
 
With the loss, Susquehanna locks up the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship which begins this Saturday, April 24, with the quarterfinals. The River Hawks will travel to Madison, N.J., to face fourth-seeded Drew University at 4:00 p.m.
 
How It Happened
The Cardinals opened up a 5-0 advantage with 8:51 left in the first half. Sophomore attacker Caroline Beckett scored twice in the run while junior midfielders Clare Richards and Molly Monaghan and sophomore attacker Kate Olsen each had a goal and an assist.
 
Junior attacker Caroline Chase (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) slowed down Catholic with an unassisted tally at 6:26. The visitors added two more goals to head into halftime with a 7-1 advantage.
 
Catholic notched the first three goals of the second stanza before the River Hawks scored three of the next four goals to close the gap to 11-4 with 7:37. Susquehanna would get no closer as the Cardinals ended the game with a 4-0 run.
 
Top Performers
Four different players found the back of the net for SU. First-year midfielder Madi Mitchell (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) scooped up three ground balls and added one goal while first-year midfielder Kelsey Homberg (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) led the way with three draw controls and three ground balls.
 
Sophomore Emmaleen Regan (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Township) started the first half, making seven saves with two ground balls, while first-year Bea Daudelin (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) started the second half and turned away five shots with two ground balls.
 
Monaghan led all players with 10 draw controls, five points, and four goals while junior Rachel Searle had nine saves and three ground balls.
