River Hawks Women’s Lacrosse Advances to Landmark Semifinals

MADISON, N.J. – The 2021 season continues for the Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team following their road win in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Landmark Conference Championship. No. 5 seed Susquehanna (4-4) knocked off fourth-seeded Drew University (3-4), 12-7, to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2016.
 
The River Hawks will take on No. 1 seed The Catholic University of America on Wednesday, April 24, at 4:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C. Wednesday's matchup will mark the third meeting between SU and Catholic with the nationally-ranked Cardinals winning both (21-10 on April 14 and 15-4 on April 21). Catholic is the six-time defending Landmark champion.
 
How It Happened
Susquehanna came out of the gate scoring, putting up the game's first three goals, including one from senior captain and defender Mary Vilardi (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional), for a 3-0 lead at 18:58. The host Rangers responded with three unanswered goals of their own to even up the score with 6:18 left in the first half. The two teams headed into halftime tied at 3-3.
 
The opening of the second half mirrored the opening of the contest as the River Hawks tallied the first two goals before Drew scored two straight for a 5-5 game with 24:18 remaining in the game.
 
SU then pulled away from the Rangers with six consecutive goals over the next 15 minutes as junior attacker Caroline Chase (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) led the charge with two goals and three assists while senior captain Nicole Hauck (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) added a pair.
 
Drew ended the game on a 2-1 run but fell short in its first game in 10 days, completing its 2021 campaign on a two-game skid.
 
Top Performers
Chase matched career-highs of five assists and eight points while recording her sixth hat trick of the season with three goals. Hauck and first-year midfielder Kelsey Homberg (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) each finished with three goals and an assist. Homberg also added four ground balls, three caused turnovers, and three draw controls.
 
Junior captain Katie Hoerman (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown) led the team with a season-best four draw controls while senior defender Sarah Bobrowski (Bloomsbury, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) contributed a career-high four ground balls.
 
Sophomore Emmaleen Regan (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Township) started the first half, making five saves and earning the win, while first-year Bea Daudelin (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) had one stop in the second half with two ground balls.
 
For Drew, attackers Emma DiPatri and Hailey Simmons led the Rangers with two goals apiece while senior attacker Lauren Cassella had a game-best five draw controls and added two points on a goal and an assist. In goal, senior Katiana Michalski made 14 saves with two ground balls and a caused turnover in the loss.
