SELINSGROVE, Pa. – After going 11 years without a win over Juniata College, the Susquehanna University men's tennis team has now defeated the Eagles twice within four days. Susquehanna (6-2, 5-2 LC) handed Juniata (1-6, 1-6 LC) a 7-2 setback Saturday afternoon after shutting them out, 9-0, on April 20 in Huntingdon.
How It Happened
Doubles
In their first doubles match as partners, sophomore
Sam Sidle (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) and first-year
Kyle Wagner (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) posted an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles to give the River Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Juniata evened up the match at 1-1 with an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles and then grabbed a 2-1 lead with an 8-7 (3) triumph at third doubles.
Singles
Susquehanna then swept all six singles matches in straight sets, dropping only a combined seven games.
First-year
Alex Baker (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) moved to 5-0 on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
Junior
Emil Vyskocil (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) and sophomore
Joshua Sanderson (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) have each now won four in a row.
Vyskocil improved to 6-2 with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 1 singles while
Sanderson is now 5-3 after a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles.
