BALTIMORE, Md. – The Susquehanna University men's tennis team dropped their first match of the season Saturday afternoon, snapping their five-match win streak dating back to fall 2019. Susquehanna (2-1, 1-1 LC) fell 5-4 on the road to the four-time defending Landmark Conference champions, Goucher College (2-0, 2-0 LC).
How It Happened
Doubles
The River Hawks claimed the first point of the match behind an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles by junior
Ethan Cooley (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) and first-year
Tim Basta (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West). The duo improves to 3-0 on the season.
Goucher then staked a 2-1 lead with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and an 8-5 triumph at No. 1 doubles.
Singles
The Gophers went up 3-1 as junior
Brian Kane posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles before
Cooley pulled Susquehanna within one with his straight-set win at No. 5 singles, dropping only one game.
First-year
Kyle Wagner (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) knotted the match at 3-3 with his shutout triumph at No. 6 singles. Junior
Omosesan Adebamgbe broke the draw with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
Sophomore
John Duncan (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) made it a tied match once again as
Duncan tallied a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles.
Senior
Slade Dumas clinched the victory with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the top singles flight.
Cooley,
Duncan, and
Wagner all remain undefeated in singles play with 3-0 records.
