Clendenin Scores Two Goals as Women's Soccer Defeats Muhlenberg

Selinsgrove, Pa. – The Women's Soccer Team found their offensive stride after going goal-less in their first three games, connecting on four shots to defeat the Muhlenberg Mules 4-1. Marley Clendenin (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) led the team with two goals, in her first career multi-goal game.

After struggling offensively over the first three games, the River Hawk offense came out of the gates firing. The team was able to earn four corner kicks before the 20 minute mark, one of which lead to the first Clendenin goal in the 19th minute. Emily Wertz (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) placed a beautiful pass directly into the box, allowing the senior defender to register her first goal of the season with a header into the back of the net.

Not even six minutes later, Anna Werner (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) connected with Samantha Chillis (Danville, PA/Danville Area) to take an early two-goal lead. Another six minutes later, Clendenin took a shot deep outside the box, about six yards in front of midfield and hit the left corner of the net for her second goal of the day.

In the second half, Gillian Maack (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) scored an unassisted goal to stretch the River Hawk lead to 4-0, putting the game well out of reach in the 54th minute. The Mules would go on to score a goal in the 58th minute, but the deficit was much too large to overcome.

Other Notes
  • The River Hawks outshot the Mules 13-2 on the evening, with seven shots being on target for SU. Susquehanna was also awarded seven corners over 90 minutes while Muhlenberg only earned one.
