Selinsgrove, Pa. – Susquehanna Volleyball finished a clean sweep of the Battle of the SUs on Saturday evening, defeating Stockton in four sets. The win also gave the ladies their fifth straight win since losing back-to-back games to start the season. They have now won 15 of their last 18 sets.
This match saw some very close sets, despite Susquehanna playing a Stockton team that went winless in the tournament. The Ospreys played the River Hawks tough throughout, hanging close in the first and final sets, while winning the second set with a nine-point margin.
In the final two sets, Susquehanna was able to pull away, even when Stockton began to threaten and gain momentum. After ending the third set on an 8-4 run, the River Hawks jumped out to an early 16-10 lead, and looked to be close to putting the Ospreys away. However, Stockton was not ready to give up as they rattled off six straight points to tie the game up. From there, a variety of Hawks stepped up to help the team pull away and secure their fifth straight win, with
Brooke LaCesa (York, PA/Eastern) delivering the final blow with a devastating kill.
Riley O'Dowd (Montville, NJ/Morris Catholic) led the team with 14 kills, while
LaCesa wasn't far behind with 12 of her own.
Madison Rockey (Howard, PA/Bald Eagle Area) finished with 38 assists while also contributing five kills and eight digs. As a team, the River Hawks finished with 54 kills to Stockton's 39.
