SELINSGROVE, PA (September 16
th, 2021) – The Women's Tennis team won their first match of the 2021-22 campaign in dominating fashion, beating the Lycoming Warriors 8-1. The men's team won by the same score against Lycoming two days ago, as Susquehanna was able to complete the sweep against their storied rival with their win on Thursday.
The evening play began with the doubles' matches which saw
Ashlynn Searer and
Haley White combine for an easy win in the #1 doubles match. The #2 and #3 doubles matches saw similar results as the combination of
Anna Ream and
Chelsea Kneedler won their match in the #2 doubles, 8-6, and the tandem of
Julie Bramley and
Isabella Scappaticci won their #3 doubles match 8-3.
The winning ways continued for the River Hawks as Searer skillfully defeated her opponent 6-1 and 6-0 in the #1 singles match. Bramley was able to mirror those scores almost identically in her #2 singles match, overwhelming her opponent, winning 6-2 and 6-1.
Perhaps the most exciting match came in the #3 singles between Ream and Emily Wolfgang of Lycoming college. In a back-and-forth affair, and daylight dwindling away, the match went to a 10-point tiebreaker, in lieu of a third set. Ream was able to come through, winning the tiebreaker 10-2 and clinching the 8-1 team win.
The #4 singles match saw Scappaticci win in dominant fashion, similar to Searer and Ream, with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. In the #6 singles, the results were very similar, as Kneedler won 6-2 and 6-0 over her Lycoming challenger. The only Susquehanna loss came in the #5 singles match as Rei Saar downed
Eliza Mahoney.
