SCRANTON, PA - In a defensive battle, neither Susquehanna University or Scranton University could tally a goal, resulting in a 0-0 tie in each team's opening match of Landmark Conference play. This was just the second tie in 15 meetings between the two teams, with the last tie occurring almost six years ago to the day, on September 26th, 2015.
In the first half, the Royals won the shot battle outshooting the River Hawks 7-3, seeming to have control of the ball in the first half. In the second half, however, the script flipped, as Susquehanna was able to gain the advantage offensively, outshooting Scranton 7-3. Even with both teams attempting 10 shots each, neither could find the back of the net in regulation. That story continued into each overtime, as the Royals were able to attempt four shots to River Hawk's one, but once again, no shots found the goal.Â
Goalie
Gerrit Stech was excellent in the tie, as he recorded a career high five saves in net, stopping several would be goals to give his offense a chance at the win. Stech and the back line stayed strong throughout 110 minutes of play, not allowing the Scranton offense to break through.
Offensively,
Michael Morelli had the most chances on goal as he attempted five shots, two on goal, throughout regulation and overtime.
Brian McKee attempted two shots, with one on goal, while
Kevin Ayoso attempted a single shot that was on target.Â
Other Notes
- Susquehanna held the advantage corners, earning seven to Scranton's five.Â
Up Next
- The River Hawks head back to Scranton on Wednesday, September 29th, for a matchup with Marywood University at 7 p.m. The team will be back at home on the subsequent Saturday to face off with Drew University in their Landmark Conference home opener at 4 p.m.
