DUNMORE, PA - The men's River Hawk soccer team clinched a 2-1 win over the Pacers of Marywood University on Tuesday night, bringing their record to 4-4-1. An early goal gave Susquehanna a lead they would not relinquish, and a second half score helped to seal the win on the road.
The scoring got started off early for the River Hawks as
Peter Vassilakos was able to find
Brian McKee, with McKee knocking in a throw in from Vassilakos in the sixth minute. The goal gave Mckee his third of the season, and a very early lead for Susquehanna in just the sixth minute.
The rest of the first half was at a stalemate, as each team was even in shots. The Pacers earned more corners in the half as well, getting four chances, while the River Hawks were only able to grab two. Still, Susquehanna was able to head into the half with 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the River Hawks looked to put the finishing touches on the win early, as
Joe Armstrong was able to find
Olivier Mathieu for a goal in the 53rd minute, less than 10 minutes into the second half. The goal gave Mathieu his second on the season, and gave Susquehanna a cushion heading into the final 36 plus minutes.
Marywood was able to strike back quickly with a goal, as Hunter Iverson scored on a penalty kick in the 58th minute. After that, the River Hawk defense was able to shut down any thoughts of a comeback as they kept the Pacers from scoring throughout the rest of the half, giving Susquehanna their fourth win of the season.
