SELINSGROVE, PA (September 25, 2021) -- In a tightly contested match from the Susquehanna University Tennis Courts Saturday, visiting Lebanon Valley College was able to take three matches in tiebreaks which was the margin of victory in a 6-3 defeat of the SU women's tennis team in non-conference play.
In all, four matches needed a tiebreaker including three in singles play. Lebanon Valley (3-0) earned the first match of the day at No. 2 doubles, as Madison Poladian and Eliana Shenk topped
Chelsea Kneedler and
Anna Ream 8-0. The River Hawks (2-2) tied the match thanks to a win at No. 3 pairs, as
Isabella Scappaticci teamed with
Julie Bramley for an 8-5 victory.
The final singles match of doubles finished at No. 1, and
Ashlynn Searer and
Haley White grinded to a 7-7 tie to force a tiebreaker. In the breaker, Jacquelyn McBride and Meredith Haas were able to notch the final two points and earn an 8-6 victory to send the Dutchmen into singles with a 2-1 lead.
LVC increased its lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, but Bramley posted her second win of the day at No. 2 as she tacked on a point for SU with a 7-6 (1), 6-3 straight set win. The first three-set match in singles was the next to finish at No. 1 singles, as Searer and McBride played a thriller. Searer responded to a 6-2 loss in the opening stanza with a 6-0 victory in the second to force the 10-point tiebreaker. McBride though was able to rebound to take a 10-6 win to make the score 4-2.
The clinching point came at No. 4 singles in yet another three-set decision, as Scappaticci picked up the first set 6-3, but fell 7-5 in the second set. The tiebreaker slanted towards Shenk, as she took a 10-3 win and earn the overall victory for Lebanon Valley.
Kneedler played well at No. 5 for Susquehanna, as she shook off a 6-1 loss in the first set to post a 7-5 second set victory. The 10-point tiebreaker was back and forth but Kneedler was able to push past Abbie Hoffer 10-8 for the win. The final match to finish up was at No. 6, as DeLisio knocked off
Eliza Mahoney 6-4, 6-1.
Other Notes
- Kneedler has now won her last two matches, picking up wins at No. 5 and No. 6.
- Bramley moved to 3-1 on the season with her win, all at No. 2 singles.
- Scappaticci and Bramley are undefeated with a 3-0 mark in doubles.
