SELINSGROVE, PA (September 29, 2021) -- Senior
Ashlynn Searer outlasted Lock Haven's Maddy Reaves at No. 1 singles 6-2, 7-5 to clinch the victory for the Susquehanna University women's tennis team Wednesday as the River Hawks topped Lock Haven University 5-4 in action from the SU Courts.
The River Hawks (3-2) got things started quickly with an emphatic win at No. 3 doubles, as
Isabella Scappaticci and
Julie Bramley rolled to an 8-0 victory to help SU take a 1-0 lead. Searer and
Haley White also played well at No. 1 doubles, topping Reeves and Mia Shuler 8-2 to double the Susquehanna advantage.
Lock Haven would pull back closer with a win at No. 2 doubles, as Delanie Wolever and Christy McLean nipped
Anna Ream and
Chelsea Kneedler 8-5. In singles play, Kneedler pushed Susquehanna up 3-1 with a straight set victory at the No. 5 spot, knocking off McCartney Register 6-1, 6-4.
The Eagles (0-1) pulled to within one once again at No. 2 singles, but Susquehanna regained its two-point match lead with a straight set 6-2, 6-1 win by
Kristen Bair at No. 6. With the score in favor of SU 4-2 and the River Hawks on the verge of the victory, Searer took the first set by a 6-2 score at No. 1 singles. The senior would play a highly-contested second set, but with the set on serve and Searer leading 6-5, Searer broke Reeves' serve to clinch the match for the River Hawks.
