SELINSGROVE, PA (October 12, 2022) – The Susquehanna field hockey team took to Sassafras Field on Wednesday evening riding a seven-game win streak, with the last four wins being shutouts. Those streaks would continue as the River Hawks took the win on home soil, beating Juniata College 1-0 in a closely fought Landmark Conference battle.
Susquehanna dominated in all facets, possessing the ball for the majority of the game and producing numerous offensive chances. But stout defense and a strong performance from Juniata's goalkeeper kept the River Hawks off the board in the first half. Alli Kiley and Ashley Schreffler would both force saves in the first period, while Sophia Prata forced the third of the half with the River Hawks' only shot of the second period.
The breakthrough came in the third, where SU experienced the peak of their dominance, racking up 10 shots in the period and finding the scoreboard through Sophia Prata, who made a brilliant run through the Eagle defense and came up with the finish that would get through into the cage and prove to be the only goal of the match.
SU finished with 17 shots and nine on goal in the match, while Juniata had just one shot and none on goal. Penalty corners were eight to one in favor of the River Hawks as well.
Now 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the Landmark for the first time in program history, Susquehanna will see their next two matches take them on the road, visiting their next Landmark opponent Catholic University on Saturday, October 15, before traveling to Virginia on Monday the 17th to face Christopher Newport University. The games will begin at 12:30 and 12:00 pm, respectively.
