Women's Soccer Shutout Streak Up to Nine with Victory Over Juniata

HUNTINGDON, PA (October 12, 2022) – The final game of Susquehanna's five-game road trip took them to Huntingdon on Wednesday night to face Landmark opponent Juniata College. Continuing their historic dominant stretch, the River Hawks earned their ninth straight shutout victory with a 4-0 win over the Eagles.

Controlling possession from the beginning, SU churned out multiple chances, forcing two saves and hitting the post before Marley Clendenin broke through in the 27th minute with a brilliant shot from the right side of the field nearly thirty yards out, launching it over the gloves of the Juniata keeper and into the back of the net. The score would remain 1-0 for more than 40 minutes after that, with the next tallies for SU not coming until midway through the second half.

The second goal came in the 70th minute, when a quick counterattack came to the feet of Emily Wertz, who continued to rack up assists on the season as she found first-year Morgan Stickley across the face of goal, where she was able to place a simple finish in the back of the net to double the lead, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career. Wertz would then get one of her own a few minutes later, scoring her fifth of the season as she pounced on a ball in the box between Juniata defenders and slipping the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. The final tally came just over a minute later, as Wertz got her third goal contribution of the night as she assisted junior Mikela Florio on another ball through the box to create a simple finish.

The River Hawks finished with 22 shots on the night, compared to just five for Juniata, with none of the Eagles' shots getting on goal to force a save from SU goalkeeper Paisley Tornatore.

Now 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the Landmark Conference, the River Hawks will next defend their streak back on home soil, hosting Catholic on Saturday, October 15 for a 4 pm kickoff. The start has already been SU's best beginning to Landmark play in program history, with plenty of momentum to continue through their remaining fixtures.
