11 Straight Shutouts for Women's Soccer After 1-0 Win at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, PA (October 19, 2022) – The Susquehanna women's soccer team hit the road on Wednesday night for their final non-conference match of the regular season, visiting Muhlenberg College and taking a 1-0 victory over the Mules.

The hosts got out to a strong start, forcing two saves from goalkeeper Paisley Tornatore in the first three and a half minutes. The River Hawks would react quickly and begin to apply pressure of their own, getting their first shot of the game in the 9th minute as Delaney Morton missed to the right of goal. After a Susquehanna corner and a shot exchanged between the teams, Susquehanna broke through with what would prove to be the only goal of the night. A long range shot by Maggie Morrison on the Mules' retreating goalkeeper skirted over her hands and into the back of the net.

From there, the teams would trade opportunities up and down the pitch, Muhlenberg seeking an equalizer and SU searching for an insurance score. Neither would ultimately come to fruition, though Susquehanna would look far more likely to score in the second half, racking up 11 shots and forcing five saves from Muhlenberg's keeper in the half.

Emily Wertz led the River Hawks in shots, taking five of them with three on target. Ellie Betheil, Kameron Watkins, Marley Clendenin and Gillian Maack all had a single shot on goal, but Morrison's remained the only one to beat a keeper for either team. Tornatore finished the match with three saves, all of which came in the first half.

Having now registered their 11th consecutive shutout victory, Susquehanna will finish their final two regular season matches against Landmark opponents. The first will see them host the Royals of Scranton University on Saturday, October 22 at 4 pm. The team will also celebrate Senior Day. They'll close out the regular season on the road, traveling to face Drew University the following Saturday, again beginning at 4 pm. The River Hawks will have a chance to claim the first seed in the Landmark Conference when they face Scranton, who currently sit tied in first place with matching 5-0 records.
