Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

River Hawks Outpaced by Gettysburg At Home

SELINSGROVE, PA (October 5, 2022) – Susquehanna men's soccer faced a stiff test on Wednesday evening in the Bullets of Gettysburg College, who have been as high as #21 in the USC Top 25 poll this season. SU put up a valiant effort and scored their first goal in three games, but ultimately were dealt a 3-1 defeat.

The Bullets would boss possession from the early goings, churning out more chances as well with six shots to SU's one in the first half. The chances would pay off in the 17th minute as a ball played into the box bounced between a couple players before settling at a GC attacker's feet, who promptly buried it in the back of the net to give Gettysburg the lead. Susquehanna would respond only a few minutes later, with their only shot in the first half coming from a free kick just outside the box in the 21st minute. Senior Michael Morelli unleashed a brilliantly bending strike that launched past the keeper and into the left side of the net to tie the game. It was Morelli's first tally of the season after leading the team last year. Gettysburg would continue to put pressure on through the reminder of the half, including forcing a save from first-year goalkeeper Tony Burns, who earned the start in net. SU held on until halftime with the score still knotted at 1-1.

Burns would be tested much further in the second half, making four saves in the frame. Despite his better efforts, Gettysburg would find the net again in the 54th minute, with another ball passed across the face of the goal that would be placed in the back of the net for a simple finish. Susquehanna would push back in hopes of an equalizer but couldn't break through the backline and struggled to find shots, turning out two in the second half. Gettysburg would tack on an insurance goal in the latter stages of the match, scoring off a corner kick to seal the game.

Susquehanna will play their next two games on the road, first visiting Goucher College on Saturday, October 8 for a Landmark matchup, kicking off at 1 pm, before they travel to Williamsport the following Wednesday to take on Penn College, kicking off at 7 pm.
