SELINSGROVE, PA (October 8, 2022) – The Susquehanna University field hockey team took to Sassafras Field on Saturday riding a six-game win streak, with the last three having been shutout victories. The River Hawks would not deviate from that winning form, unleashing a dominant performance against Landmark Conference opponent Goucher College and taking a lop-sided 10-0 victory over the Gophers.
Plenty of goals meant plenty of goalscorers, and leading the way for SU was Annalee Smith, who added to her team-leading goal tally with a hat-trick, scoring the first, fourth, and tenth goals and upping her season total to nine, already a career-high. The mark also has her in second place in the conference. Following Smith and adding two goals of her own was forward Sarah McAndrews, who scored the fifth and sixth goals of her season and sits second on the team behind Smith.
Five River Hawks had a single goal, including sophomore defender Lydia Hidlay, who scored her first of the season, first-year forward Reagan Heard and sophomore Lexi Fumanti, who both scored the first goals of their collegiate careers. Kari Schmidt and Emma Campitelli were the other two goalscorers on the day.
Schmidt tallied a hat-trick of assists, providing the helpers for two of Smith's goals and Hidlay's. Rebecca Ripans, Sophia Prata, and Katie Bucher would all tally a single assist as well.
Now 10-3 on the season and with a strong 3-0 start in Landmark play, SU will get to stay at home for their next match, welcoming their next Landmark opponent Juniata College to Selinsgrove on Wednesday, October 8 for a 7 pm start.
