Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Career Performance from Selvaggi Leads River Hawks Over Lycoming

SELINSGROVE, PA (November 27, 2022) – Susquehanna women's basketball took to the court at home on Sunday afternoon a week after their runner-up finish in the National Beef SU Tip-Off Tournament that saw them fall to Misericordia in the Championship game. Facing Lycoming College, the River Hawks got back to winning ways, winning 72-62 over the Warriors.

Both teams came out firing in the opening minutes of the game, matching each other with 19 points in the opening quarter. SU would lead by five after just four minutes, but Lycoming slowly pulled back and took a three-point lead of their own with 1:09 remaining in the quarter. The River Hawks would respond through a three-pointer from Kenzie Selvaggi, the first of four that she would make in the game.

SU then took control of the game early in the second quarter, scoring eight unanswered points before Lycoming could respond. The half would end with Susquehanna leading 32-27.

The Warriors would storm back in the third quarter, erasing the deficit and outscoring SU 20-14 in the frame to take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter. The third quarter would be the only one in which Susquehanna would not make a three-point field goal, going 0-2 from range.

The fourth quarter began with a single made free throw for Lycoming before Susquehanna unleashed an offense barrage, scoring 20 of the next 25 points to stretch out to a 13-point advantage with only 1:49 on the clock. Selvaggi and Kaitlyn Lynch would be the primary scorers on the run, with Isabella Schwabe, Alicia Goldenziel, and Julia Pinckert each adding a single made bucket, meaning Selvaggi and Lynch combined for 14 of those 20 points. Lycoming would provide some late drama as they scored nine points in just 50 seconds to close the gap, but SU's defense would stiffen and force the Warriors to begin fouling to stop the clock, sending the River Hawks to the line. There, Pinckert would go 4 of 4 and Selvaggi 2 of 2 to ice the game in the final seconds.

Selvaggi would finish with a career-high scoring total of 26 points, adding five assists and four rebounds. Lynch followed with her own strong scoring performance, tallying 22 while adding seven rebounds, the second-highest total in that stat as well. Goldenziel would have the highest, grabbing 12 boards for a new career high. She added three assists and led the team with three steals. Pinckert would be the final River Hawk with double-digit points, scoring ten while leading the team with seven assists. She added five rebounds, a block, and a steal. As a whole, the team would produce one of their best shooting performances of the season so far, shooting 46.6 percent from the floor, 35.3 percent from three, and 70.6 percent from the free throw line. Lycoming would be stifled in comparison, shooting just 35.4 percent from the floor, 36.0 from three, and an abysmal 36.8 percent from the free throw line.

Susquehanna will now hit the road having played three-straight games at home. They'll visit Marywood University on Wednesday evening for a 6:00 pm tipoff. They'll next play at home on Saturday, December 3rd, taking the court at 2:00 pm for their Landmark Conference opener against Elizabethtown College.
