SCRANTON, PA (November 30, 2022) -- The host Pacers of Marywood University pulled away late to hand the Susquehanna University women's basketball team a 53-44 loss in non-conference action Wednesday evening.
The game was close throughout the affair, with the River Hawks (3-3) trailing by just one point less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. The Pacers scored the next seven points and led by as many as 12 down the stretch to clinch the victory.
Sophomore Kenzi Selvaggi led the way offensively with 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting, making 3-of-8 from behind the arc, adding five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore
Alicia Goldenziel recorded her first collegiate double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while
Isabella Schwabe also tallied nine rebounds.
First-year
Julia Pinckert logged nine rebounds, five assists and three points, and senior
Kaitlyn Lynch recorded eight points in the loss.
Vanessa Sabol also posted five points off the bench, as the River Hawks (3-3) shot 17-of-55 for the contest. Susquehanna shot 54.5 percent in the fourth quarter, but seven turnovers in the period doomed the comeback attempt.
The Pacers (5-1) were led by Abbey McGee and her 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Olivia Ciullo added 16 points and eight rebounds. Rachel McDonald also added nine points off the bench for the hosts, who finished with 15 points off turnovers as well as a 13-1 edge in second-chance points.
Susquehanna welcomes Elizabethtown College to town for the Landmark Conference opener Saturday, December 3 in O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
