ANNVILLE, PA (February 16, 2022) -- Senior attack
Caroline Chase posted a career-high nine points on two goals and seven assists Wednesday in the 2022 season opener at Lebanon Valley College, but the host Dutchwomen were too much as the Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team fell to LVC 18-11 in non-conference action from Arnold Field.
Chase eclipsed her previous personal-best of eight points set last season at Drew University on April 24, while her seven assists were the most in her career as well. The seven helpers in a game were the most in a contest for the River Hawks (0-1) since March of 2020, while the nine points were the most in a game for any SU player since the 2020 season opener against King's (PA).
The River Hawks took and early lead less than three minutes into the game on a Chase tally, but the Dutchwomen scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 edge.
Hannah McNamara tallied off of a Chase helper to make it 3-2 but LVC potted two more before the end of the first 15 minutes to make it 5-2.
Lebanon Valley (1-0) controlled the second quarter, outscoring SU while extending its lead out to seven at the half at 10-3. After halftime, SU settled in offensively as it tallied the first two goals of the second half thanks to sophomores
Kelsey Homberg and
Caitlin Harvey. Lebanon Valley got a goal from Brittany Hathaway, but
Katie Hoerman and
Samantha Aben scored to get the River Hawks to as close as four at 11-7.
The Dutchwomen would regain control though, scoring the next five goals while pushing their lead up to as much as 10 at 18-8 with 7:08 to play in regulation. Susquehanna didn't go away though, as first-year
Allie Kutler notched her first career goal followed by another Aben score to make it 18-10. Chase closed the scoring for SU on a free position shot with 1:17 to play.
In addition to Chase's strong contest, Susquehanna had seven players that tallied at least one point including Homberg, McNamara and Aben who all finished with two goals apiece. Harvey finished with a goal and an assist, and
Liz Hordesky finished with with a team-high five ground balls.
Sophomore
Madi Mitchell added four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while
Katie Quackenboss also contributed two caused turnovers. Susquehanna keeper
