NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The River Hawks fell 14-4 on Sunday to the #19 North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops, as a six-run third inning for the opposition helped to down Susquehanna.
Kris Morrow posted a three hit day for SU, as the sophomore infielder drove in a run and also picked up the first extra base hit of the year for the team.
Susquehanna fell behind early as the Battling Bishops led 8-0 after the top of the third. However, in the bottom of the fourth, the River Hawk bats finally got going. After three walks with one out to start the fourth, back to back wild pitches scored two runs for the River Hawks, cutting the lead to 8-2. After an RBI groundout from
Sean McCulloch, Morrow laced a single through the left side scoring
Tyler Hmielewski to cut the lead in half.
The four-run deficit was as close as the River Hawks would get however, as NC Wesleyan slowly extended their lead, rapping out 10 hits, scoring 14 total runs. The Battling Bishops had five extra base hits to pull away from Susquehanna and clinch their third win of the season.
Thomas Romanelli had the only other hit for the River Hawks but the lineup was able to work nine walks across nine innings. Susquehanna stranded nine runners in the game however and also struggled defensively, posting five errors.
Aidan Piccioni allowed one run in an inning and 2/3 of work while
Ryan Redmond pitched three innings in his first career outing and struck out four.
Adam Stuck gave up one unearned run in his only inning of work for the SU, striking out one batter.
