Roanoke Wins Two Over Susquehanna Baseball

SALEM, VA - The Roanoke Maroons defeated Susquehanna on Saturday, outscoring them 28-2 on the day with the Susquehanna offense only able to muster eight hits over 18 innings. Chris Corrado picked up two hits and an RBI on the day, while Kris Morrow also had two hits for the River Hawks.

The Roanoke pitching stifled the Susquehanna bats, striking out ten batters over the 18 innings. The Roanoke offense pounded out 23 hits, with eight extra base hits on Saturday.

Game One: Roanoke 12, Susquehanna 0

Two four-run innings spelled the day for the River Hawks in game one versus Roanoke, as the team fell 12-0. The Maroons scored in five of eight innings up to bat, with two four-run innings really hurting the Susquehanna chances on the day. Two home runs in the fourth highlighted the offense effort for Roanoke.

The River Hawks had their best chance to score in game on when a Sean McCulloch walk loaded the bases with one out. However, back to back fly outs left the three runners stranded base. Overall, Susquehanna stranded eight batters, as they were able to get five runners on base through walks along with three hits.

Dillan Weikel took the loss for Susquehanna in his second start, tossing 3.1 innings before giving way to the River Hawk bullpen.

Game Two: Roanoke 16, Susquehanna 2

The second game was more of the same for the River Hawks, as the Roanoke offense excelled, while SU struggled to get runs across. The team was able to push two runs across, and had five hits and three walks during the game.

Corrado knocked in the first run for Susquehanna in the fourth inning, as his double to left scored Evan Knapp, to make it a 5-1 game. Corrado eventually came around to score as well, as McCulloch brought him home with a sacrifice fly to pull the River Hawks back into the game at 5-2. However, a six-run bottom of the inning pushed the game out of reach for SU, as the Maroons continued to pile onto their lead throughout the rest of the game.

In game two, Roanoke scored in six of their eight innings at bat, as their bats were clicking on Saturday. Nathan Dawes was able to stymie their progress a bit, as the first-year fired two innings of one-unearned run in his first career appearance.

Teagan Duffie took his second loss of the season, lasting three innings on Saturday afternoon.
