WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 26, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team outscored host King's College (Pa.) 7-3 in the second half, pulling away from the host Monarchs for a 12-7 road victory in non-conference play from McCarthy Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Susquehanna (2-1) and King's were tied 3-3 after the first quarter after the host Monarchs scored the first three goals before the River Hawks tallied three straight to end the period capped by a
Chris Ciccarello score off of a
Jake Turner feed. The run for continued for Susquehanna, as
Rob Swenson scored his second of the season unassisted to give the River Hawks their first lead of the game. King's answered to tie the game at four thanks to an Alec Martin scored, but defender
Ted Zaborowski netted his first of the season to make it 5-4 going to the break.
After halftime, King's (0-1) and SU exchanged goals to start the third period before
Victor Simone started a 3-0 stretch of goals to finish the stanza with a 9-6 lead for the River Hawks. Jake Cierech scored to trim the SU lead to two at 9-7, but Swenson notched back-to-back goals to help the River Hawks pull away.
First-year
Jack Gaillard led the River Hawks with four points on two goals and two assists, adding two ground balls, while Swenson tallied a team-high three goals along with a team-high eight ground balls and three caused turnovers. First-year
Matthew Faggioli added a goal and an assist, while Ciccarello finished with a pair of goals. First-year
Brennan Lorence continued his strong start with a goal and five ground balls, and
Charles Braught IV finished with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The face-off men had a strong day for SU, as
Jared Tavernite won 10 of his 12 draws, picking up six loose balls, while
Ryan Prum was 6-of-9 with four ground balls.
Augie Granatelli came off the bench to get the win in relief, as he made 13 saves while allowing just four goals in 54:45 minutes of action.
Jackson Campbell made 19 stops for King's College Saturday, while Martin finished with three goals for the Monarchs. Susquehanna posted a decided 56-27 edge in shots, while picking 44 ground balls to just the 25 from the Monarchs.
