Men's Lacrosse's Quick Start Not Enough In 14-9 Loss At Misericordia

DALLAS, PA (March 2, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team outscored host Misericordia University 5-1 in the opening quarter, but the Cougars went on a 9-1 run to come back and knock off the River Hawks in a non-conference contest at Mangelsdorf Field Wednesday evening. 

Susquehanna (2-2) opened the scoring on an unassisted tally from Victor Simone, followed by a Logan Frank strike at 12:56 of the first quarter to make it 2-0. Misericordia tallied to make it 2-1, but Brennan Lorence started a 3-0 run over the final eight minutes of the period to make it 5-1 after the opening period. 

Misericordia started its comeback in the second period, pulling to within one at 5-4 before first-year Jack Gaillard tallied from Rob Swenson to put SU back up by two with 8:30 left in the first half. The Cougars (2-0) netted the next three goals of the to make if 7-6 after the first 30 minutes. 

The Cougars continued to add on the goals, leading by as many as four at 10-6 before Charles Braught IV netted a goal with help from Lorence to make it 10-7. Gaillard and Frank would score twice to bring SU to within three but a pair of MU goals pushed the game out of reach. 

Gaillard finished with a team-high three points on two goals and an assist, posting two ground balls as well, while Frank, Lorence and Swenson also each had two points apiece. Matthew Faggioli and Steven Musser also each netted a goal for Susquehanna, which was outshot 56-34 on the night. 

Defensively, junior goalkeeper Jozef Korpics helped keep the River Hawks in the game with a career-high 24 stops while adding seven ground balls. Braught tallied six ground balls as well, while face-off man Ryan Prum was 12-of-17 with six ground balls. Ted Zaborowski added three ground balls as well for SU. 

Kyle Vandenberg posted a game-high seven points for Misericordia, while Robert Wagner tallied three goals, two assists and seven ground balls. Chris Straub made 10 saves in the win.
