BETHLEHEM, PA - The Susquehanna Men's Basketball team won their eighth game in a row on Wednesday night, defeating Moravian with a dominating second half performance. After leading by eight points at the break, the River Hawk offense poured it on the Greyhounds in the second half, outscoring the opposition 47-26.
Susquehanna came out sizzling in the second half, opening the final half of play with an 18-6 run, with 11 points coming from the hand of
Dominic Dunn. Dunn hit three three-pointers within the the first two-and-half minutes coming out of the break, helping to create a large Susquehanna advantage.
The River Hawks produced a balanced offensive effort with five players in double figure scoring. Dunn led the way with 17 points and five threes, while
Cooper Haberern posted a career high 13 points off the bench.
Jack Van Syckle added 12 points on 6-7 shooting, pulling down nine rebounds, while
Lukas Yurasits finished with 11 points.
Jay Martin rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points off the bench and
Stuart McAvoy posted a career high five points in Bethlehem.
The Susquehanna offense struggled for a majority of the first half, with Moravian holding a lead throughout the first 10 minutes of play. After pulling ahead 24-22 at the 6:41 mark, the River Hawk offense found its footing, rattling off 18 points in the final six plus minutes of the half to go into the break up eight. The hot shooting continued into the second half when SU was able to extend their lead to 20 points with their 18-6 run.
The hot shooting continued throughout the second half with the Susquehanna lead never falling below 19 points for the rest of the way. The team was able to put up a 44.7% shooting performance from the field in the second half, knocking down seven threes, and forcing 11 turnovers from Moravian.
The team has now clinched at least the second seed with the win, meaning they will host at least the first round game of the Landmark Conference playoffs. The conference playoffs will being on February 23, with the championship game occurring at the home floor of the higher seed on February 26. Susquehanna can clinch home court advantage in the Landmark playoffs with a win on Saturday over Goucher (3-18, 0-11 Landmark Conference).
