Fayetteville, NC - The Methodist University Monarchs defeated the Susquehanna University Baseball team 9-2 on Saturday afternoon, as the Monarchs starter Ryan Hill threw eight scoreless innings. Susquehanna managed five hits, while the River Hawk bullpen gave up five total runs to allow Methodist to pull away.
The Monarch offense scored in six of the eight innings they batted, scoring one run in five of those innings, before putting the finishing touches on their win with a four-run eighth.
Dillan Weikel (1-2) took the loss, as he made it to the sixth before being removed after allowing a couple of runners to reach. He finished with a line of 5.1 innings pitched, allowing four runs, with only three being earned. The River Hawk bullpen struggled to keep the game in reach, as free passes allowed several timely hits to put the game out of reach for SU.
Susquehanna picked up two runs in the top of the ninth to avoid a shutout, as
Adam Schreck punched a one out single up the middle and
Tony Rossi reached on a walk. Both runners advanced on a passed ball and after a strikeout,
Sean McCulloch doubled down the left field line to score two runs for SU.
Evan Knapp added two hits for the River Hawk offense, while McCulloch also had two hits, to go along with two runs batted in and a stolen base.
Landon Ness threw a scoreless inning of relief for Susquehanna, striking out two batters.
