SELINSGROVE, PA (March 16, 2022) -- Susquehanna University women's lacrosse head coach
Randall Swope earned her 100th career win Wednesday afternoon, as she led the River Hawks to an emphatic 21-6 win over local non-conference rival Lycoming College in play from Sassafras Field.
Swope earned her 23rd victory Wednesday as the head coach at Susquehanna, earning 26 wins at Franklin & Marshall College while also picking up 51 victories in eight seasons as the head mentor at Division I Bucknell University.
Susquehanna was determined to get the 100th win against the Warriors (1-4), as SU took a 5-1 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. The River Hawks tacked on five more goals in the second quarter, leading 10-3 going into the halftime break.
The River Hawks opened the second half with goals from
Caitlin Harvey and
Kelsey Homberg to take a 12-3 lead, and followed a Lycoming tally with four more strikes to extend the lead out to 12 at 16-4 at the end of the third quarter.
SU netted the first four goals of the final period before sophomore defender
Madi Mitchell tallied her first of the season to finish the scoring for the River Hawks in the historic win for their head coach.
Heather Riefenhauser led all players with eight points on four goals and four assists, adding five ground balls and a caused turnover, while
Caroline Chase picked up two goals to go with a team-high five assists. Chase also tallied four ground balls, while Homberg had a massive game with career-highs in goals (5), assists (2), points (7), ground balls (4) and draw controls (8). First-year
Liv Owen posted two goals and an assist, adding three ground balls, and fellow newcomer
Emma Kelleher had a career-high three points on a goal and two assists.
Harvey finished with two goals and two draw controls while
Allie Kutler tallied a game and career-high 10 draw controls.
Katie Hoerman finished with two caused turnovers to lead the squad, and
Mackenzie Lloyd added a caused turnover as well.
Makenzy Backus,
Nikki Genovese and
Hannah McNamara all scored as well for the River Hawks, and goalkeeper
Emmy Regan made seven saves to pick up her fifth win of the year.
Susquehanna outshot its visitors 49-14 on the day, while posting 13 successful clears on 14 attempts. SU also won the ground ball edge 29-15 to go with a massive 21-7 advantage in the draw circle.
Tess Arnold and Katie Maguire each scored twice for Lycoming, while Zoe Stauffer made 18 saves for the Warriors in net.
