River Hawk Men's Lacrosse Races Past Hood, 17-14

FREDERICK, MD (March 19, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team earned a 17-14 non-conference victory Saturday at Hood College, using a 5-0 run over the second and third quarters to earn its second victory in a row while evening their record at 4-4 for the season. 

Susquehanna (4-4) and Hood alternated goals over the first seven minutes before the Blazers put together a 3-0 run to take a 5-3 lead over the River Hawks. First-year Kieran Thomas netted his first of the game, followed by a Jack Gaillard score with 35 seconds to go in the period to make it 5-5 after 15 minutes. 

The second quarter saw Susquehanna continue its momentum, as first-year Chris Ciccarello netted an unassisted man-up goal to give SU a 6-5 lead. Hood tallied another three-goal spurt to regain a two-goal lead at 8-6, but the River Hawks responded with a 3-0 run of their own before the end of the half to make it 9-8 going into the locker room. 

The River Hawks continued to pour in goals to start the third quarter, as Gaillard scored followed by a Victor Simone tally to make it 11-8 in favor of the visitors. Hood got goals from Colby Gallagher and Aidan Gilsdorf to pull back to within one at 11-10, but once against SU came right back with three goals to make it 14-10. 

The Blazers wouldn't go away though, as Hood netted four of the next five goals to trim Susquehanna's advantage to one at 15-14 with 3:49 to go in regulation. Hood had a chance to tie the game with two minutes left, but junior goalkeeper Jozef Korpics made a clutch save, which led to a transition goal the other way by Kobi Buffa. Thomas added another insurance goal with 10 seconds to go to secure the victory. 

Brennan Lorence set personal-bests in points and assists, as he finished with six points and five helpers, adding four ground balls and a goal. Gaillard finished with five points thanks to three goals and two assists, also picking up five loose balls. Buffa tied his career high with three goals, and Matthew Faggioli netted two goals on three shots on goal. 

Thomas and Rob Swenson each finished with two goals, and Logan Frank handed out a pair of assists in the win. Ryan Prum continued to shine at the face-off dot, as he finished 18-of-28 with 11 ground balls. Defensively, Ted Zaborowski posted four ground balls and a caused turnover, and Mike Nevins posted three ground balls and a caused turnover. 

Susquehanna outshot the Blazers 53-34 on the day, failing on just one of its 22 clear attempts Saturday. Korpics finished with 10 saves for Susquehanna, adding two ground balls. 

Muldoon and Gilsdorf each posted five points for Hood, while Colby Gallagher chalked up three goals in the loss.
