ALLENTOWN, PA (March 5, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team started slow and couldn't make up the deficit late at Muhlenberg College, falling to the Mules in Allentown, PA Saturday 16-6 in non-conference play at Scotty Wood Stadium.
The Mules (1-2) netted the opening two goals before
Logan Frank got the River Hawks (2-3) on the board with help from
Rob Swenson at 5:34 of the first quarter. Muhlenberg rattled off three more to take a 5-1 advantage but Swenson tallied his fourth of the season with 1:55 to play in the quarter to make it 5-2 heading into the second stanza.
After the Mules posted back-to-back goals to start the second quarter, Frank tallied his second of the game with the man advantage to make it 7-3 with 11:47 to play in the first half. Muhlenberg would go on the offensive though, scoring the game's next five goals to take a 12-3 lead late in the third quarter.
First-year
Brennan Lorence stopped the stretch for the Mules with an unassisted tally at 3:33 of the third quarter, but four straight by the hosts put the game away. First-year
Kieran Thomas and Lorence each scored late for Susquehanna, as Lorence's tally came with the extra man.
Lorence finished with two goals and three ground balls in the game, while Frank added his two tallies on two shots on goal. Swenson finished with a goal and an assist, while
Jack Gaillard and
Ted Zaborowski each posted assists in the game for the River Hawks. Zaborowski led the squad with four ground balls on the day, while face-off man
Ryan Prum was 9-of-16 with four ground balls.
First-year defender
Aidan Kennedy picked up two ground balls in addition to his caused turnover, while
Gavin Rossman and
Victor Simone each had caused turnovers as well. Thee netminders saw action for the River Hawks, as
Jozef Korpics made 17 saves in three quarters of play.
Andy Sadler stopped a pair of shots in 2:08 of play, while
James Czarnaski finished with eight saves while allowing just two goals.
The Mules outshot their visitors 65-34 on the day, including a 43-15 edge in shots on goal. Susquehanna made a total of 27 saves for the game, but struggled holding onto the ball to the tune of 23 turnovers. SU was also 14-of-22 on clear attempts.
Muhlenberg was led by Ethan Grossman and his seven points on three goals and four assists, while Jack Kraemer and James Dalimonte both contributed four goals apiece.
