Women's Tennis Starts Spring Campaign With 8-1 Win Over King's

SELINSGROVE, PA (March 20, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University women's tennis team got its 2022 spring season underway on the right foot Sunday afternoon, sweeping doubles en route to an 8-1 win over visiting King's College in action from Garrett Sports Complex Courts on a breezy, chilly day in Selinsgrove.

The River Hawks (5-2) have now won three straight matches dating back to the fall, posting a stellar 5-1 mark at home this season. Susquehanna got things going with strong play at No. 1 doubles, as Ashlynn Searer and Julie Bramley knocked off Ashley Kenia and Addie Atkins 8-3. It was the first time this year the duo of Bramley and Searer had played together.

Things continued in a positive way for the River Hawks, as Chelsea Kneedler and Anna Ream outlasted their opponents at No. 2 doubles, earning a 8-7 win thanks to a 7-5 victory in the tiebreaker. The win was the pair's third doubles win together in 2021-22. In the final doubles' match of the day, Haley White and Isabella Scappaticci also were pushed to a tiebreak, but had no issues in the extra stanza earning a 8-7 (0) victory to clinch the sweep going into singles.

Needing just two victories to clinch the match, Susquehanna quickly took a 4-0 lead on King's with a 6-1, 6-2 win by Bramley at No. 2 singles over Kenia. The win was Bramley's fourth of the season in singles, as she improved to 4-2 at No. 2 singles this year. The clinching point came at No. 1 singles, as Searer and Atkins played a spirited match ending in a win for the River Hawk captain with scores of 7-5, 6-3. Searer improved to 5-2 on the season with the victory.

The wins would keep coming for SU, as Ream moved to 3-3 on the season with a 7-6 (1), 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, and Kneedler won in straight sets at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph. Kneedler is now 5-1 on the season in singles' action. The final win of the afternoon came at No. 6 singles, as Kristen Bair stayed undefeated in 2021-22 with a 8-2 win over Sarah Stettler to jump to 4-0 on the season.

King's lone win came at No .4 singles, as Emily Morano bested Scappaticci 6-2, 6-1.
