CARLISLE, PA (March 22, 2022) -- Susquehanna University women's tennis picked up a win at No. 3 doubles thanks to the play of
Isabella Scappaticci and
Grace Tepes, but the River Hawks couldn't fight back in singles as the Red Devils of Dickinson College knocked off the River Hawks 8-1 in play from Hays Tennis Courts on a cold, windy Tuesday afternoon.
Scappaticci and Tepes were playing together for the first time in 2021-22, but the duo seemed to click right away as they earned an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. That was the only victory though on the day for Susquehanna, as Dickinson (5-3) picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles followed by an 8-1 win at No. 2 pairs to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
In individual play, the strength and depth of the Red Devils lineup was too much though there were some very exciting matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
Chelsea Kneedler pushed her first set to a tiebreaker, falling narrowly 7-5 to Dana Kleinman before dropping the second set 6-1. At No. 5 singles, Scappaticci fell 6-4 in the first set but rallied to snatch the second set 6-3. In the super-tiebreaker, Molly Michel would stretch out the lead and Scappaticci was unable to make a comeback as she dropped the 10-5 decider.
The River Hawks moved to 5-3 with the loss overall.
