Sears Deals As Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep Of Drew Sunday

SELINSGROVE, PA (April 10, 2022) -- Senior right-hander Kyle Sears tossed seven strong innings Sunday to help lead the Susquehanna University baseball team to a three-game sweep of Drew University with a 5-1 victory in Landmark Conference action from Bollinger Field.

Sears was the latest River Hawk starter this weekend to turn in a quality start, as he allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out three over seven innings of work. Sears handed the ball to Tyler Rigot, who worked two sparkling innings in relief to nail down the victory for SU (10-15, 5-3 Landmark Conference).

Susquehanna got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, as Sean McCulloch led off with a double down the left-field line. He would come around to score on a passed ball three batters later to make it 1-0 SU. Drew (3-22-1, 1-11 Landmark) would get the run right back in the top of the second, using a double steal with two outs to deadlock the game at one.

The River Hawks would regain their lead for good in the bottom of the third, as McCulloch scored Michael Biuso with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1. SU added on another run in the bottom of the fourth, as Tyler Hargus ripped a double over the right fielder's head to plate Tony Rossi and make it a 3-1 game.

The hosts would put some distance between them and the Rangers in the fifth inning, as Chris Corrado singled and stole second to lead off the frame. Kris Morrow singled in Corrado two batters later, and Morrow came around to make it 5-1 on a RBI single to right field by JP Yore.

That was plenty of offense for SU Sunday, as the River Hawk pitchers didn't allow a Ranger runner past first base over the last five innings in rolling to the win.

Hargus finished with two hits in four at-bats, driving in a run, while Evan Knapp was also 2-for-4. Morrow was 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases, while Biuso added a hit and a stolen base as well. McCulloch was 1-for-3 with a RBI and run scored in the victory.

Drew starter Johnny Jarvie went 4.2 innings while allowing four earned runs and seven hits to pick up the loss, while Ranger reliever Connor Ruscansky allowed just three hits over 3.1 scoreless innings.
