SELINSGROVE, PA (April 10, 2022) -- Sophomore
Isabella Scappaticci picked up two victories Sunday afternoon, but visiting Drew University earned a 7-2 Landmark Conference victory over the Susquehanna University women's tennis squad.
The team honored its five seniors following the match, but it was Scappaticci that had the standout day for the River Hawks. After
Ashlynn Searer and
Julie Bramley fell 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, Scappaticci and senior
Anna Ream picked up an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles to even the match score.
It was the first time this season the two have played together, but Scappaticci has had success with anyone she's been paired with in 2021-22. She is now 8-0 in doubles this season, having earned doubles' wins with Bramley,
Haley White,
Grace Tepes and Ream.
The most exciting match of the day came at No. 3 doubles, as White and Tepes were bested in a tiebreaker 8-7 (2) to give Drew the edge heading into singles. Mary Kalorin topped Bramley at No. 2 singles to double the Rangers (7-8, 4-0 Landmark) advantage. Ream was topped at No. 3 by Sanne Bloemendaal to make it 4-1 Drew.
The deciding point came at No. 1 singles, as Searer was outlasted in three sets by Melina Christodoulou 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Scappaticci would have no issues at No. 4 singles, earning her second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 decision. Scappaticci has now won two straight matches in singles.
Drew got victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to finish the afternoon.
