SELINSGROVE, PA (April 20, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University women's tennis team snapped a three-match losing skid Wednesday afternoon, cruising by Juniata College 9-0 for a Landmark Conference victory from Garrett Courts.
The River Hawks (6-5, 1-2 Landmark) got a quick 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles by
Anna Ream and
Chelsea Kneedler over Shannon Snyder and Payton Kough. The River Hawks are 10-1 this season at No. 3 doubles. SU saw the No. 1 pair of
Ashlynn Searer and
Julie Bramley breeze past Lana Dumnich and Jamie Mahigel 8-2.
The final doubles match was at No. 2, and
Isabella Scappaticci and
Grace Tepes upped their record to 2-0 on the season with an 8-4 win. Scappaticci stayed undefeated in doubles in 2021-22, moving to 9-0 on the year. It was the fourth sweep of doubles this season for Susquehanna.
In singles, Bramley put the River Hawks within one of clinching the victory with a win by retirement at No. 2. The clinching point for SU came at No. 1 singles, as Searer pushed her singles record over .500 with a 6-1, 6-4 win while stopping a three-match skid. Ream also had no issues at No. 3 singles, dropping just one of the 13 games in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph.
Scappaticci won her third straight singles match Wednesday with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Snyder at the No. 5 spot. Tepes pushed past Dumnich at No. 4 singles with scores of 7-6 (3), 6-2, and
Kristen Bair won in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 to finish the afternoon. Bair is now 6-2 on the season, posting the squad's best winning percentage.
