BETHLEHEM, PA (April 15, 2022) -- Host Moravian University outscored the Susquehanna University men's lacrosse team 6-0 in the fourth quarter, rallying for a 14-10 Landmark Conference victory in play from John Makuvek Field Friday afternoon.
The Greyhounds (7-3, 3-1 Landmark) opened the scoring but Susquehanna (7-7, 1-3 Landmark) responded with a four-goal run capped by a
Brennan Lorence tally 7:10 into the game to make it 4-1. Moravian tallied at 6:05 of the first quarter, but Lorence tallied and then set up
Steven Musser for a man-up goal to put SU up 6-2 after the first quarter.
Moravian opened the second quarter on a three-goal run, but first-year
Matthew Faggioli tallied unassisted followed by goals from
Victor Simone and
Chris Ciccarello to push Susquehanna out to a four-goal lead.
After intermission, Susquehanna led 10-7 after a
Kieran Thomas man-down goal with 9:20 to play in the third quarter. Both team's defenses would take over from that point, as the game went scoreless over for nine minutes until Brennan Fluehr scored with 10 seconds left in the third quarter to pull Moravian to within two at 10-8.
In the fourth, the hosts tied the game with 10:32 to play on an Aaron Judge goal and immediately took the lead for good 29 seconds later on a Steven Salica score. Moravian put up an insurance goal from Salica at 8:14 on the clock, adding two more late in the game to pull away for the conference victory.
Lorence finished with two goals and two assists, posting three ground balls as well, while Faggioli also contributed two goals, one helper and two loose ball pick-ups. Ciccarello had two points offensively, and Musser tallied once on a team-high 12 shots.
Ryan Prum finished 15-of-27 on face-offs, picking up a team-high seven ground balls.
Defender
Ted Zaborowski also finished with seven ground balls, while fellow face-off wing
Dominic Contella scooped up five loose balls in addition to his one caused turnover.
Jozef Korpics finished with 10 saves in net for the River Hawks, which outshot Moravian 43-38 on the day. SU also held a decided 45-28 lead in ground balls.
Four players had hat tricks for the Greyhounds on Friday, while Trevor Dzama set up six goals in the game. Thomas Lee also made 11 saves in the win for MU.
