Men's Lax Breaks School Record For Goals In 26-3 Win Over Juniata

SELINSGROVE, PA (April 20, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's lacrosse established a new school record for goals in a game with 26, breezing past Juniata College 26-3 Wednesday afternoon in Landmark Conference play from Sassafras Field.

The 26 goals bested the previous record of 24, set on March 16, 2016 against Wilkes University. The 39 points for SU was also a new program-high, as 17 different players notched at least one goal on the day including a highlight tally from Ryan Prum for his first goal of the season.

The offense came early and often on Wednesday, as Brennan Lorence scored right off the first face-off thanks to an assist from Prum to make it 1-0 just 19 seconds in. Seven seconds later, Susquehanna doubled its lead on a Steven Musser goal. Juniata's lone first-half goal came at 13:29 of the first quarter with an extra man, but that was the last time the Eagles would score until the second half.

That opened the door for a massive offensive run for Susquehanna, as SU netted 18 straight goals. The hosts led 9-1 after the first quarter, and Jake Turner started a 10-0 second frame run to make it 19-1 at the break. Chris Ciccarello netted a man-up goal to get the second half going for the River Hawks, cruising to the win.

Lorence finished with a game-high eight points with five goals and three assists, as his goals and points totals were career-highs. First-year Jack Gaillard added two goals and three assists, while Musser notched a hat trick on four shots on goal.

CIccarello finished with two goals, adding an assist, while first-year Connor Aitken posted his first two collegiate tallies Wednesday. Logan Frank, Prum, Victor Simone and Cameron McKee all added a goal and an assist, while JP Jones and Ben Polich each scored their first goals as River Hawks.

Defensively, Dylan New posted five ground balls and two caused turnovers while Marshall Woodrosky picked up two ground balls while leading the team with three caused turnovers. First-year Aidan Kennedy also registered two caused turnovers.

The team statistics were heavily slanted in favor of the home team, as Susquehanna outshot the Eagles 62-10 on the afternoon. SU forced Juniata into 29 turnovers on the game, while going 3-for-4 on man-up opportunites in the contest. The River Hawks also won 19-of-30 face-offs on the game, as Alexander Messina was 7-of-10, Garrett Laub was 6-of-11 and Prum added a 6-for-9 performance.

In goal, four goalkeepers all played a quarter in the win, as Augie Granatelli picked up the win as he made one save in the opening frame. James Czarnaski made a stop in a scoreless second quarter, and Andy Sadley and Ian Shaw each also saw action.
