Men's Tennis Knocks Off Juniata 7-2 Wednesday

SELINSGROVE, PA (April 20, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's tennis team swept doubles, using that lead to power past visiting Juniata College for a 7-2 Landmark Conference win in action from Garrett Courts Wednesday.

The River Hawks (7-3, 2-1 Landmark) started off with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles thanks to the efforts of Ethan Cooley and Tim Basta. The pair is now 7-2 on the season together, going 4-1 at the No. 3 position in 2021-22.

Joshua Sanderson and John Duncan had no issues at No. 2 doubles won eight of the nine games played to push SU up 2-0 in the match. Emily Vyskocil and Henrik Sandstede would complete the sweep of doubles at the No. 1 spot, besting Utsav Deravariya and Ilia Buralkin 8-4.

In singles, Susquehanna needed just two victories to clinch the conference win. Sanderson picked up an emphatic win at No. 2 singles to make the team score 4-0, as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over William Michelson. Sanderson leads the squad in wins this year with nine, as he moved to 9-2 in singles this season.

The winning point for the River Hawks came at No. 3 singles, as Sandstede earned his second win of the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-0 win to push his record over .500 for the year. The best match of the afternoon came at No. 1 singles, as Buralkin and Vyskocil played a three-set thriller. Vyskocil earned a 7-6 win in the opener set, but Buralkin battled back with a 6-1 win in the second. The super-tiebreaker also went the way of the Eagle No. 1 players, as he earned the first victory of the day for Juniata.

Susquehanna (7-3, 2-1 Landmark) would pick up wins by Alex Baker at No. 5 singles and Kyle Wagner at No. 6 singles to cruise to the victory. Baker earned his first win of the campaign at No. 5, while Wagner upped his singles mark to 6-1 on the campaign.
