Fast Start Pushes Women's Lacrosse Past Elizabethtown, 20-12

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (April 23, 2022) -- Senior Caroline Chase posted eight points on five goals and three assists, powering the Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team past Elizabethtown College 20-12 Saturday in Landmark Conference play. 

The win for Susquehanna (9-7, 2-4 Landmark) kept the playoff hopes alive, as the River Hawks will need to defeat Drew University next Saturday and get some help in the tie-breakers to earn a spot. 

Chase got the offensive outburst started for the River Hawks started with an unassisted goal, but Kate Ziegler tallied to tie the game at one. Caitlin Harvey netted a women-up goal to start a 4-0 run for SU to end the first quarter, taking a 5-1 edge into the second stanza. 

E-Town (1-11, 0-6 Landmark) got another goal from Ziegler, but Heather Riefenhauser started a 5-0 run for Susquehanna powered by two goals from Chase and tallies from Allie Kutler and Hannah McNamara. In all, SU would pour in nine goals in the second quarter, taking a 14-6 lead into the halftime intermission. 

After the break, scores by Riefenhauser, Madi Mitchell and Kelsey Homberg made it a 17-6 Susquehanna lead. The River Hawks would lead by as much as 12 at 20-8 in rolling to the victory. 

In addition to Chase's scoring prowess, she added a career-high seven ground balls in the win. McNamara finished with a career-best six points on four goals and two assists, while first-year Liv Owen set up three goals while scoring once herself. 

Riefenhauser finished with three goals, an assist and two caused turnovers, and Mitchell added a goal, assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kutler added two goals and three draw controls, while Hoerman tallied with a goal, four draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Sophomore Liz Hordesky also posted two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while Homberg posted a goal, six draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Emmy Regan made two saves in the win. 

Ziegler led all players with six goals in the loss for E-Town.
