Scranton Pulls Away For 16-8 Win Over Women's Lacrosse Friday

SELINSGROVE, PA (April 8, 2022) -- Visiting University of Scranton scored six goals in the fourth quarter, pulling away for a 16-8 win over the Susquehanna University women's lacrosse squad on a cold, rainy night from Sassafras Field. 

The contest was tight throughout the contest, as the visiting Lady Royals led by two goals at both halftime and after three quarters. Scranton finished the game though on a 6-0 run, posting three woman-up goals late in the contest to clinch the win. 

Scranton took an early 5-2 lead through the first 15 minutes, but Susquehanna started to rally in the second quarter. Senior Caroline Chase set up both Heather Riefenhauser and Allie Kutler for goals to make it 5-4 with 10:02 left in the quarter. 

The Lady Royals got a goal at 8:21 from Jennifer Williams, but Chase tallied for the 35th and 36th time in 2022 to deadlock the game at six with 5:28 to go in the first half. Scranton finished the half on goals by Caroline Miller and Molly McCarren to make it 8-6 at the break. 

After the intermission, both teams scored twice as Hannah McNamara tallied a woman-up goal followed by the 26th goal of the year by first-year Liv Owen to make it 10-8. 

Scranton started the fourth quarter with a goal 2:35 into the period by Devyn Tanajewski to make it 11-8. Conklin scored two woman-up goals, followed by another by Erin Reich to put the game away late. 

Chase finished with five points to pace the River Hawks, as she registered three goals, two assists and three ground balls. Riefenhauser added a goal and three helpers, while McNamara tallied twice to go with three draw controls. 

Kelsey Homberg tallied four ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls, and sophomore Madi Mitchell also racked up five ground balls and a career-best five caused turnovers.

Senior Katie Hoerman finished with three draw controls and two ground balls, while defender Chloe Pappalardo had a career-high three ground balls. Emmy Regan made 11 saves between the pipes for the River Hawks, which were outshot 37-21. 

Conklin had a team-high four goals for the Lady Royals Friday, while Tanajewski posted three goals, three ground balls and four caused turnovers. Lauren Boldis made nine saves for Scranton.
